What is it about the weekend, especially during the holidays, that encourages major splurging in the food category? Maybe it’s all the get-togethers with friends and family, combined with copious leftovers and delicious food being served. But whatever it is, it’s definitely something I fall victim to all too often.
This weekend, D and I had two of our friends over for a game night. It was a lot of fun and we ended up hanging out until after midnight last night. We got some food delivered to feed us for dinner, and I thought I was making a good decision by ordering a salad (it was a Mediterranean salad with falafel, feta cheese, stuffed grape leaves, lettuce, olives, onions and pepronicini peppers). While it probably was a good decision, it certainly didn’t cancel out all my other splurges of the night:
– 7 layer dip with tortilla chips
– 1 slice of cheese pizza
– gingerbread cake
Yeah, I definitely overdid it and I felt not so great about it once I woke up this morning.
I suppose the lesson here is not to beat yourself up for splurging, but also to make sure it doesn’t carry over too far. There’s always the temptation to say “well, I messed up today, so I guess the week is a lost cause”. I’m making sure that once tomorrow starts, I’ll be back on track with some better eating and a health dose of workouts.
How was everyone else’s weekend?
