With all the craziness of the past few years, and especially this particular year, I have to admit that I’ve been neglecting myself a little. I haven’t been eating the greatest, I’ve been drinking just a little too much wine and I’ve been exercising very rarely. It’s definitely time to make a change. I’ve been down this road a lot, so I had to think up some new ways to make it interesting and to motivate me to actually MAKE the changes I ultimately want.
Recently, I decided that it was just about time to invest in a new handbag – one of my all time favorite things to shop for and splurge on! I found one I loved that was a little pricier than I normally go, but had everything I wanted. In order for me to “earn” this treat for myself, I made a little price chart and everyday I can earn a certain amount of dollars:
There are also “bonuses” if I’m feeling ambitious in a given day, for example: I can get an extra $5 if I do 100 squat or a certain amount of pushups, etc.
At the end of the day, I add up what I earned and put it in my planner. It helps keep me focused on the goal if nothing else!
Perhaps an even bigger motivator would be the thought of knowing I have several big events on the horizon that will be much more pleasant and fun if I am in better shape. There’s a big birthday event in August where I will be seeing much of my extended family. Also, we have our upcoming annual Disney World trip in September. Oh yeah, and not to mention my upcoming WEDDING! Though that last one is just a little less than a year away, so there’s time for that one.
The biggest thing I’m doing in order to help me reach my goals (aside from the mini daily goals mentioned above), is that I’m re-starting the 21 Day Fix. I got the system last year around this time in order to help me get in shape for our Japan trip and I really liked doing it. The workouts are pretty difficult and I like how the use of the containers forces me to do some really solid meal planning.
So, every day my plan is to wake up at 6:30 to get my my workout and then cook myself a healthy breakfast (usually scrambled eggs) to get my day started off right.
I’m hoping the blog will also help keep me accountable on this journey!
Have you ever tried the 21 Day Fix?
