The big events of the year are now over, and that means one thing: I can now focus a lot more attention on my fitness goals. My wedding is now 9 months away and I have a lot of work to do if I want to look my best in my wedding dress (which I have yet to start shopping for – got to get on that!). I like variety in my workouts to keep me interested, and I definitely get bored if there’s too much repetition in my routine. Lately, I’ve been rotating through several different workouts, and I thought I’d share them with you:
21 Day Fix
I picked up the 21 Day Fix last year before we set off for Japan because I was intrigued by the container system, and everyone was raving about it at the time. The workouts are pretty intense and leave me kind of dead afterward, but they do give you results. The containers force you to do a ton of meal planning, which means I need to be on my game before any given week starts. I haven’t fully completed a 21 day cycle following the instructions exactly, but this is something I want to start during the upcoming week. I will let you know how it goes!
I’ve loved Zumba for a good long while now. The love affair started four years ago when I was given the very first Zumba game for the Wii as a birthday present. My collection of Zumba Wii games expanded rapidly over the years, and recently, I was taking an in-person Zumba class at a nearby gym. The in-class workout was amazing and barely felt like working out. Just in the past few months, I also invested in a Zumba DVD set, which is great for when I just want to zone out and dance. I especially love that they included a 20 minute “Rush” workout in this set, because that means even if I’m extremely pressed for time (as I often am), I can still do something.
This isn’t a new workout, but it is new to me. I had been reading several bloggers rave about TurboFire for years, and when looking for something new to add to the routine, I decided to give this a try. I found a good deal for a DVD set used on Amazon, and the first time I put it on, I knew it was going to become one of my favorites. The workout is a kickboxing cardio style workout with some HIIT and strength thrown in. It’s actually very similar to a class I had taken at my old gym which I did not enjoy – the instructors and music were terrible – but this version is so much fun. After doing a TurboFire DVD, I really feel as though I got in a quality workout.
And those are my workouts of the moment! Starting this week, I’m going to attempt kicking off a full round of the 21 Day Fix, and throw in a couple of other supplementary workouts from the other two categories.
