BoxyCharm January Box Review

I’ve been a BoxyCharm subscriber for nearly a year now. I originally subscribed because I was starting to get more into makeup and beauty products, and had also started to get excited about the subscription box craze. I had read dozens of reviews of their previous boxes, and I couldn’t help but notice that they provided quite a bit more product for the money than any other box I had seen. Now, nearly a year later, I have to say it was the right decision and if I could only subscribe to one box, this would be the one.

FYI: This is NOT a sponsored post.

Boxycharm January

This past weekend, I decided to use every item in the January box on my face in the same day, to give it all a fair try before I did this review. Here’s how things went:

Coastal Scents box

The first item in the box was the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Palette. BoxyCharm has sent out two of these palettes before, so I have quite a vast collection of them now. For my trial on Saturday, I decided to use two of the lighter colors on the far left.

Coastal Scents colors

They went on very smooth and made my eyes look natural and, as the title promises, a touch smoky. So far, this palette might be my favorite of the 3 Coastal Scents palettes that I have.

Brushes

Next up was a set of 3 eye shadow brushes: the Revolution BoxyCharm Eye Set. The brushes seem sturdy and I’m pretty sure they were partly responsible for how smoothly the Coastal Scents colors went on. I will use these quite a bit going forward!

Mascara and eyeliner

The last two products were the Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eyeliner Pen and Blinc Mascara Amplified. The eyeliner is a felt-tipped eyeliner, which I have never tried before. I mostly use pencil-style eyeliners, and recently have been using the “gel meets pencil” Julep eyeliners. For my first time applying a felt-tipped liner, I think I could have drawn some cleaner lines, but in the end, the look was glamorous and I was a fan.

I have some mixed feelings about the mascara. The results when putting it on where not amazing. My lashes looked fine, but I have so many other mascaras that do a better job. The main thing I didn’t like was the process of taking the mascara off. The instructions tell you to soak your lashes in warm water and “apply pressure” because the mascara comes off in little tubes instead of the usual way. This isn’t a big deal, but it does force me to change my makeup removal routine, which is an extra hassle at the end of the night. I’m not willing to change my routines for one makeup product, especially if the product isn’t particularly special.

Overall, I have to say I love the way my eyes looked when using all 4 products at the same time. This box is a great value and has given me lots of new things to play with in my makeup routine over the next few months.

  1. I have to say I have never really been a makeup person. I do however never leave the house without mascara, eyeliner, and a little blush. When I feel like spicing things up, you’ll see me wearing some red lipstick.

I never used to be much of a makeup person either until the past year. But for me, staples are always eye products – concealers, eyeliners, mascara.
