BoxyCharm | October

by Lisa on Friday: Oct 21, 2016

Another month, another BoxyCharm review! The theme of this month’s BoxyCharm is “Boxy Bazaar”, and this month’s box contained a wide variety of products. Was it as good as last month’s rave?

October BoxyCharm

As always, this post is not sponsored or affiliated with BoxyCharm in any way.

October BoxyCharm - Info Card

Here’s what we got this month:

October BoxyCharm - Luxie Brushes

Luxie Beauty Eye Blender Brush Pack
I’m always excited to get new brushes in a subscription box, and I had actually been needing a new blending brush that was on the smaller side (the only one I had in my collection was too big). These brushes are all blending brushes, and they come in three varying sizes, all rather small. However I would have preferred to get a blending brush plus two other kinds of brushes instead of 3 of the same type.

October BoxyCharm - Temptu

Temptu Shimmer Bronzer
I was pretty hesitant when I saw this in the box. I have extremely pale skin, and I’ve never tried a liquid bronzer before. I was certain it would make me look crazy, and I had heard a lot of people grumbling that they were unhappy that this was included in their boxes this month. I gave it a try mostly for the sake of being able to give my opinion in this blog post, and I actually was pleasantly surprised. This bronzer blends incredibly well and it can be as light as you want it to be. It just goes to show that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

October BoxyCharm - Lip Color and Briogeo

Briogeo Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant
I haven’t given this a try just yet, but this heat protectant comes in a cream form and has a great smell to it. I don’t regularly use heat protectants on my hair, but every now and then I throw one into my routine so I will be saving it for that.

Starlooks Ultra Matte Lip Paint
This is a very nice fall color and I really wish the formula had been better. It was extremely dry and patchy and this was not helped by the extremely stiff wand it came with. I had a hard time applying it, and though I liked the color, I didn’t like the way it looked at all.

October BoxyCharm - IBY Palette

IBY Beauty Threes Company Trio Eye Shadow
I think if BoxyCharm hadn’t sent the Studio Makeup palette last month that this trio would have gone over a lot better. It includes shadows of pretty good quality and nice, wearable colors.

October BoxyCharm - IBY Palette Inside

However the colors are remarkably similar to the ones in last month’s palette, and if I had to choose I would pick the Studio Makeup over this one any day. Still, not a bad product if you didn’t get the one from last month.

————————————

Overall, this month’s BoxyCharm wasn’t one of my favorites, but in my eyes, BoxyCharm is like a pizza – even an average one is still delicious.

BoxyCharm | September 2016

by Lisa on Saturday: Oct 01, 2016

Spoiler alert: I have one thing to say about the September BoxyCharm…

It was the best box ever!

BoxyCharm September - Contents

This month’s theme was “Camp Glam” and included some amazing products that I will be using regularly from now on. BoxyCharm has always been my favorite beauty subscription box, and this month really proves why.

As always, I am not sponsored by/affilated with BoxyCharm in any way.

BoxyCharm September - Hairgurt and Butter Nail Polish

Project Beauty Hairgurt Smoothing Yogurt Hair Masque
We’re starting off with a giant hit right here (and it’s not even the biggest hit in this box!). I gave this a shot in the shower the day I opened this box. I used it in place of conditioner and crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t regret skipping that step (my hair would be unbrushable without conditioner of some kind in it). Well, I didn’t have anything to worry about because this transformed my hair into something so smooth and soft I barely recognized it. This may have to become a staple for me in my hair care routine.

butterLONDON Trend Nail Lacquer
I’ve never tried butterLONDON nail polishes before, but I have heard that the formula is very high quality, and the price tag matches this claim. This is a nice fall color that I will try out as soon as I’m ready to take off the polish I’m currently wearing. I’m excited to finally give this brand a try!

BoxyCharm September - Lipstick and Eyeliner

Hikari Cosmetics Eye Liner
I haven’t cracked this eye liner open just yet because I have such a large backlog of eyeliners to get through. I am always happy to have backups of the things I use regularly, so this will be well used once I get to it.

PUR Cosmetics Lip Lure
This is the only product in the box that I have some doubts about. As I mentioned in last month’s review, dark lip colors aren’t really my thing, but this one seems like it might be more wearable if applied with a light hand. Will I ever reach for it? That remains to be seen.

BoxyCharm September - Palette

Studio Makeup “On-The-Go” Palette
We’re both starting and ending this review with a bang. This is the absolute star of the box.

BoxyCharm September - Palette Colors

BoxyCharm has included several palettes in the past, and while they were good, they were never of the “OMG I love it” variety. Well, this one is. The formula is so creamy and blendable. I was able to do a really nice look with it without much hassle (and I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to applying eye shadow). This is now my go-to everyday palette! I just can’t put it down.

If you’re looking for a high quality beauty subscription box to try out, BoxyCharm has my vote as #1, even over Sephora. It’s my favorite package to get in the mail every month!

Play! by Sephora | September 2016

by Lisa on Tuesday: Sep 27, 2016

It’s time again to discuss the Play! by Sephora subscription box.

Sephora September 2016 Box

The theme of this month’s Play! by Sephora box is the “Unbasic Basics”, and I’d have to say they did a pretty great job of nailing the “basics” of beauty in here.

Sephora September 2016 - Unbasic Basics 2016 Box

Every box comes with one of these cards that you can bring to the store to have 50 beauty points added to your account. Be forewarned though, not all of the cashiers know what to do with this. I’ve had some instances of confusion when attempting to cash one in. Also, as of a few month ago, all the products are delivered inside a cute dust bag with a beauty-inspired saying on it like the one below.

Sephora September 2016 - Bag

As always, this post is not sponsored or affiliated with Sephora.

Sephora September 2016 - Eyebrow Gel and Perfume

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel
Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand I hear talked about time and again on youtube, and for good reason – they have some quality products. I was excited to try this gel, and on first impression it did a good job of holding my brows in place without being too heavy.

Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia
This is the second Sephora box in a row that’s had a great perfume sample. Usually the ones they send are way too strong, but this was subtle enough that I could wear it to the office on a daily basis. It’s not something I’d run out to buy the full size of, but I like it enough.

Sephora September 2016 - Living Proof and Ole Henriksen

Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation
I’m always a fan of getting skin care samples in subscription boxes to try out new brands and formulas. I find that they usually last me a good few weeks, which is pretty awesome for a tiny container. This one is no exception. It’s lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin. I’ve been using it before putting on makeup in the morining.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector
I am a huge fan of the brand Living Proof. Their shampoo, conditioner and leave-in hair products have done wonders for my hair. I’ve tried this hair mask a few times and while it did help with the smoothness of my hair, I didn’t find that it did anything magical. I’m going to keep trying it though and see if my opinions change.

Sephora September 2016 - Lipstick and Tattoo Liner

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper
This is the first time I’ve seen a duplicate in one of the Sephora boxes – we got this same liner in March. However, despite what I said in that original review, the Tattoo Liner has since grown on me quite a bit, and now that I’m more used to using it, I really like it. I’m still working through the original, but I’m happy to have a backup once that runs out.

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Love Spell
This shade is beautiful! Not only that, but it’s not too dark of a color for me, so I will actually end up using this.

—————

Overall, I’m very happy with this month’s box. I plan on using every single one of these products over the next few months – not one dud in the bunch!

Play! by Sephora August Review | Subscription Box

by Lisa on Monday: Aug 29, 2016

As you know if you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, I really love subscription boxes. I’ve been subscribed to the Play! by Sephora box since they launched, and for the low price of $10, it really can’t be beat.

Sephora Play August Box

This post is not sponsored and I pay for this subscription with my own money. It’s just fun to share!

Sephora Play August Box - Wink Outside The Box

For the past few months, Sephora has been sending all the products in the box inside these cute little bags with makeup sayings on them. It’s a fun touch, though I never know what to do with these bags after I open the box. Keep them? Reuse them somehow? Maybe I’ll use them to hold stocking stuffers during Christmas.

Sephora Play August Box - Contents

This month’s box was a hit with me because I was able to use and enjoy every single product. There were no duds and no products that didn’t work on my skin tone. (This is a rare event!)

Sephora Play August Box - Eyeliner and Mascara

First up was the Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil in the shade “Flirting Game”. I used this as an eyeliner, though apparently you can use this as a smoky eyeshadow base (work fast when blending though – once it dries, it’s on there good). I was very impressed with it as an eyeliner and am always happy to have an eyeliner that won’t budge on me.

I had never before tried the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara, but it’s one I’d heard a lot about on Youtube. After trying it out for the first time, I have to say I’m a fan. It made my lashes look long and volumized. I liked it so much, I might rotate this sample into my mascara routine now rather than waiting until I run out of my current one.

Sephora Play August Box - Caudalie and Eyeshadow

The next item was the Caudalie Resveratrol Eye Lifting Balm. Because I have such troubled undereyes, I love trying out new eye balms/serums in subscription boxes. I’ve tried it a few times thus far and will keep at it to see if I notice any slight reduction of my dark circles.

I’m always excited to see a shimmery eyeshadow sample in boxes like this one, and the Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in the shade I-544 was no exception. This shade looked as pretty on the eye as it does in the pan.

Sephora Play August Box - Lancome and Perfume

The Lancome Energie de Vie Smoothing & Glowing Liquid Care Moisturizer is a very thin liquid, but it did do a good job of moisturizing my face. I used it right before putting on makeup and thanks to the fact that it absorbs into the skin quickly, it seems the perfect time to use it. I’m not sure if it made a huge difference in the appearance of my skin, but I will keep using it.

The last item in the box was the Clean Reserve Blonde Rose perfume sample. I’m very picky about my fragrances, especially because I work in an office and don’t like to wear anything very heavy that will overwhelm my coworkers. But this one was very fresh smelling and best of all – subtle. I’ve been wearing it regularly.

August BoxyCharm | Subscription Box Review

by Lisa on Tuesday: Aug 23, 2016

I’m so happy to be back to reviewing my favorite subscription box of all time: BoxyCharm!

August Boxy Charm Box

I honestly don’t think there’s a better box out there for the price, and I love the fact that they always send full sized products.

August BoxyCharm - full box

This is not sponsored in any way, and I pay for BoxyCharm with my own money.

August Boxy Charm Box - Hashtag

This month, BoxyCharm debuted a new box design, complete with its own hashtag. I’m sure they launched this new design with Instagram in mind.

August Boxy Charm Box - Blush and Bronzer Palette

The biggest item in the box this month was the Coastal Scents blush and bronzer palette. The palette comes with its own brush, which is pretty cute and very soft.

August Boxy Charm Box - Blush and Bronzer Palette Colors

When I first swatched the colors, they didn’t seem to have very much pigmentation, but when applying on the face it was a whole different story. I’ve been using the bronzers the most and going very lightly with the blushes as they look pretty heavy on my very pale skin.

August Boxy Charm Box - Serum and Liquid Lipstick

I was very excited to see such a large skin serum in this box. The brand is Aloette and it retails for $48 (more than twice the cost of the box)! I’ve tried it a few times and like the way it feels on the skin. I will be incorporating this into my nightly routine as soon as I run out of what I am currently using.

The next product in the box is the Dirty Little Secret Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick. This color is a very bright red and WAY outside of my lipstick comfort zone. I will keep it around though for special occasions/when I’m feeling brave.

August Boxy Charm Box - Mascara and Shadow Stick

I had high hopes for the Beauty for Real Shadow Stick, and it even looked pretty awesome when swatched on my hand. I had never tried a shadow stick before, and it had been something I thought I might like. On the eyes, I tried this two ways: first on top of a primer. Total fail! You couldn’t even see that I had put any product on. Today I tried using it as a base for my regular eyeshadow. This worked better, but it still wasn’t anything magical.

August Boxy Charm Box - Shadow Stick

I have not yet cracked open the Doucee Cosmetics Maxlash Volumizer Mascara since I’m working through several mascaras at the moment. However, I’m always happy to have another high quality mascara to add to my collection.

August Boxy Charm Box - Card

And that’s it for this month! I’m very happy with the contents of this box, and most things I started using immediately because I was so excited about them. My favorites from the box are the blush and bronzer palette and the face serum.
